Hiii Glow PPL! If you are plugged into the industry that I write about, which I know many of you are, then you already know that ‘longevity’ is the new frontier. In terms of wellness it means living long with a high quality of life (this looks different for everybody but independence, happiness, connection, movementspan and physical / mental function all come to mind).
I’m not going to get into all the ways to be proactive about improving longevity in your younger years but I want to talk about how it is a lifelong practice. To know me personally is to know that the client base that I’ve worked with most as a personal trainer is actually seniors, aged 70-90. And while everybody has varying levels of interest in personal vanity (I really don’t think this is age related hah) for the most part, these older people hired me to train them not because they were in search of abs or Pilates arms but because they were focused on expanding longevity.
In working with this subset of people on fitness, I realized how rare it is for seniors to have a personal trainer. I mean, think about it … do you know any 90 year olds with a designated PT that isn’t working with them from a reactive care standpoint? Just good old fashioned weight lifting and cardio? I didn’t but I do think that fitness X seniors is both a white space opportunity in the industry and something that needs to be way more commonplace in the longevity conversation.
Everyday is a new opportunity to work on your longevity practice no matter if you’re 25 or 95. I know, I know, it’s not that simple and you’re right. But let’s just start the conversation. You’ll see a few brands in today’s issue that are tackling this head on and good on them!
