When I make these newsletters, there is way more info that I choose to omit vs including everything that may fall under Glow. It is curated information that I think you all would want to know about and as I further define Glow’s lens, I often think about if I was the one reading the newsletter what would I want to know here that I can’t get elsewhere.

There is one category that I constantly stumble over, specifically in picking and choosing which brands to include because the market is so inundated with new product. That category is supplements.

So you know, the only supplements I take are electrolytes and occasionally protein if I’ve put myself through a tough strength workout. And even so, I’d prefer to make a natural electrolyte drink with water, honey, citrus and salt and get my protein from natural sources.

There is a supplement out there for every need and deficiency. One of the problems that I see is that these supplements aren’t required to be tested to prove they are both safe and effective. There is a company called SuppCo that sets out to solve for that issue.

Supplements have become intermingled with beauty - so much so that in many GRWMs, you’ll see the creator show the supplements that they take alongside their makeup routine. You really see this the most with fitness creators - a handful of supplement pills + liquid greens + gut health pre and probiotics are framed as an absolute must to start the day. Meanwhile, creators are often being paid to promote these brands.

Everybody knows their own body best and should take supplements if they want. All I’m saying is, if you take supplements make sure you know WHY you are taking them. Also, maybe consider if there is something you can change about your diet / lifestyle before getting sucked into the supplement game because you don’t want to just mask an issue. Supplements can get expensive, your body can get hooked on them and if you don’t have a deficiency that the supplement is solving for it can be detrimental to your health and goals.

Anyways, you won’t much supplement info in today’s issue. Next week might be different. Thanks for being along for the ride.

xx, Abby
